Series Wolfenstein It has a rich history, it has almost a dozen projects – from the first two -dimensional action to modern dentisting shooters with magnificent graphics – and is considered one of the most long -lived. Soon another part of the famous franchise will be released – Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. So we decided to refresh the history of the series, starting from the very origins.
Castle Wolfenstein (1981)
The first game of the series for the development of which was responsible Muse Software , She published in 1981 and was the first project of the Stealth Excel genre. The game is completely made in 2D and tells about the adventures of the nameless spy in the walls of the Volfenstein castle somewhere in the German rear. The hero needs to steal secret documents and get out of the castle alive.
The character had only a ten -shot pistol and grenades, and with their help he had to overcome the level of level. The whole charm is that the game could be done quietly, without killing anyone, or openly, destroying all enemies in the way. What way to choose, the player decided, which undoubtedly benefited gameplay.
This is where Wolfenstein began.
Beond Castle Wolfenstein (1984)
The second part was a direct continuation of the original, and here we, in the role of the same nameless saboteur, need to fulfill a much more important task than the abduction of documents: to get into the Fuhrer bunker and lay a bomb near the office, where he holds a meeting with the highest command.
The gameplay has almost not changed since the first part, but in the new game there was more space for the stealth component: a knife was added to a standard gun for a dozen cartridges that allows you to silently kill opponents, as well as food, clothing and other buns – they can be found in the cabinets and behind pantry doors, replacing the notorious boxes.
Surprise!
It was not worth it to hastily kill everyone in a row, because a pass system appeared, thanks to which a dangerous area could be passed without noise. He stopped us, it means an enemy soldier – we put him a pass. If everything was fine, he encouragedly yelled “Heil!", Which meant" the path is free ". And when the guard did not suit the guard, he either attacked us, or cut the alarm to which reinforcements escaped, and in such cases the good old, good firearm came to the rescue. If we did everything right, in the end the bunker took off into the air.
Wolfenstein 3D (1992)
It was 1992. Studio ID Software I bought from Muse Software the rights to the Wolfenstein series, having been connected with it for a long time, and in May of the same year I released Wolfenstein 3D, The first -person shooter and the ancestor of this genre. To say that the game produced a splash means to say nothing.
It was in this part that the hero appeared, who became the face of the series,-William of the “bi-jae” Blaskovitz, who once again (well, believe the game for the word) is trying to overthrow the Nazi regime. There is almost nothing left of the previous spirit of Stlas-Exhalen: now we simply break through the hordes of opponents, whether it be ordinary SS soldiers with MP-40 in their hands or monsters who shoot at us from weapons just a futuristic species. The main task, as in the original, was to get out of the same Volfenstein castle, once again chosen by the Nazis, the place of implementation of almost all secret projects.
The beautiful world of Semo-3D.
This "mechanical" Hitler came out very tenacious!
The game has grown markedly both in graphic and in terms of leveling levels. The player was placed in the semi -three -three world, consisting of six episodes of nine missions, in which, among other things, there were a huge number of secrets: it was necessary to carefully look for entrances to secret rooms. In some, there were useful items – first -aid kits, gold, weapons – and some were references and Easter bars (for example, one of these secret doors leads to a level that almost copying the game PAC-Man ). But the most tidbit “piece” of the game was not at all secret levels, but the ability to personally kill Adolf Hitler in the end, put on mechanical armor.
Return To Castle Wolfenstein (2001)
Passed an incomplete ten years, and ID Software again decided to please fans and release Return to Castle Wolfenstein, adding Wolfenstein even more charm and gave something that the franchise was so lacking: at least any logical plot and the long-awaited full 3D.
For that time, the graphics were on top.
1943. The allies intelligence learn that the Nazis are developing a weapon designed to change the course of the war, and throws into German territory a detachment from two saboteurs with the whole agent Blaskovits, who is enthusiastically entitled to stop the frenzy of General Wilhelm Strasse, nicknamed Totenkopf (well, or general of the skull, to whom as it is like more familiar), with whom the protagonist will have very complex and long "relationships". General Skull is a brilliant scientist, leading mind of the SS secret projects department. As befits a villain, he builds his intrigues to the world, creating unknown things.
One of the creations of the general skull.
Of course, saboteurs were seized and sent to the castle of Wolfenstein (Hello again!), and Blaskovich, faithful to duty, passes fire, water and copper pipes, since the concept of the game has not changed at all. He fights with a huge number of Nazis, destroys all kinds of undead, tears the ubersoldat of the skull to pieces, stops the paranormal division of the SS, and at the very end destroys Henry I, burying the plans of the Third Reich with him to conquer the world.
Wolfenstein (2009)
The sequel Return to Castle Wolfenstein received ambiguous players. It is understandable: to dilute the honed formula with completely new https://non-stop-gb-casino.co.uk/ chips is a rather risky step.
The case is happening in the German city of Aizenstadt, where incomprehensible things begin to happen, and again they throw our "friendly" agent Blaskovitsa. In the course of passage, it becomes clear that to ordinary science, the Nazis led by the same general with a skull, who did not forget the past of a humiliating defeat, decided to see a considerable fraction of magic and mysticism. Result?
Firstly, a whole horde of various opponents: Wehrmacht soldiers, Magnizhi magicians, monsters crawling out of portals, and other no less dangerous comrades. Secondly, the arsenal of impressive weapons: magic Tula medallions, impenetrable energy shields-damn it, but you could only dream of this, because thanks to such "toys" enemies can be burned, killing, evaporated (literally), dissected and do it Other dirty tricks!
Actually General Wilhelm Strasse, he is general skull, he is also Totenkopf.
… and the product of his pampering with the world of the Black Sun.
The game from the very beginning was not in a hurry: in addition to a sluggishly developing campaign, a certain number of side tasks appeared, and if we were bored with secret laboratories, for example, we could climb into the house of a senior officer and steal the encryption book “Enigma” to make a Cracau and Caroline mug and Caroline Beker (they also play an important role here) was easier to decipher the enemy negotiations. The information fullness of the universe has also increased – during the plot you can read and listen to a bunch of orders, notes, excerpts from scientific reports and other documents that gradually opened the meaning of what was happening on the screen for us.
Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014)
"July 16, 1946. Dawn. Everything is in the full ass … ”-with these words the next trip of the bija against the Nazi regime began.
1946. The third Reich made a technological leap for decades ahead and now wins on all fronts. Our task is to stop the activity of an old acquaintance, unknown to the Zeppelin surviving after the crash, General Wilhelm Strasse.
However, it is not possible to stop the villain during the assault on his fortress, the main character receives a head injury and falls into a vegetative state for fourteen years, and the war ends with the unconditional victory of Germany, who also subordinated himself to himself and former allies. Waking up in 1960 in the anti -utopian world, the hero organizes the struggle with the Nazi regime, the ruling world of the iron hand.
The assault on the fortress of the skull. 1946.
It is such a depressing story that tells us Wolfenstein: The New Order. Swedish studio Machinegames I was not afraid to change the series and show us my vision of alternative history. The game has its own charm: “familiar unfamiliar” post -war years simply amaze.
Here are a huge number of newspaper cuts, showing how the Nazis won the war, and the famous Liverpool four, now singing in German, and the monumental structures of Albert Speer in Berlin, embodied by German engineers, and much more. Even Jimmy Hendricks, chopping rock in the shelter “Craiseu” in the catacombs of Berlin, looks like it should have been initially (yes, that black guy with a guitar is Jimmy Hendrix).
Do not be afraid, he does not bite!
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (2015)
In the wake of the popularity of The New Order, the Machinegames studio set to work again and a year later released an addition the size of a full -fledged game – Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, which became the wrestling of the previous part.
Here, after a long absence, the famous castle has finally lit up in the Austrian Alps. The game, as if returning to the origins, almost word repeats the plot of Return to Castle Wolfenstein: the same castle, agent-1 that dies during torture, escape from the castle … And again, forgetting about common sense, we are immersed in the atmosphere of magic Along the way, demanding to find documents with the coordinates of the headquarters of General Skull (the very headquarters that we will storm at the beginning of The New Order).
The good old Wolfenstein in a completely new cover turned out to be a sip of fresh air, but did not surpass the past part. The game could be criticized only for the frankly weak plot and that vacchanum that was going on closer to the end, because sometimes it seemed that the whole game was only a prologue to a chic final KAT-scene.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus (2017)
The ending of The New Order left a very bitter sediment in the soul, but common sense triumphed.“He cannot just die so important hero, well, it cannot!" – we repeated to ourselves. And they turned out to be right: the new part of the series, called Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, was the first of his large teaser with E3, that we adored the bi-jae Blaskovits, but the instructions for survival after the atomic explosion, unfortunately, did not show.
So, we will describe in short, what we know at the moment. Events unfold after the destruction of the skull fortress with an atomic bomb from the board of "Hammer Eve". The hero comes to his senses in the United States occupied by evil Nazis, where he is the remnants of Kreisau are going to arrange a second American revolution. However, behind them on the heels is Frau Engel, with whom we also have not the best relationship from the moment the camp was destroyed in Belitsa. Beloved Blaskovich, Anya Oliva, is pregnant with twins (according to Seth Roth), and the hero himself, dressed in a technological suit, again crushes the Nazis to bring freedom to America, and then to the whole world.
In addition to the next story about resistance, some innovations in the gameplay await us. In the rollers, unknown weapons are still lit up, capable of melting walls and evaporating people. In addition, it is known that we will visit the famous New York atomic funnel and New Orleans, and we can also saddle Panzershund and with its help to kill hated Nazis.
Whoever says, but Wolfenstein will live for a very, very long time. Confirmation of this is the successful resuscitation of the Machinegames Studio series and the fast exit of the new part of the adventures of all the beloved BJ. Let's hope that The New Colossus will not hit the dirt in the mud. We are looking forward to the release!
